Many people believe there is only one style of wrestling. The common high school wrestling you see, and college wrestling. However, there are three styles of competitive wrestling. The styles of wrestling are all somewhat similar but also extremely different. The three style of wrestling that are in the wrestling world are folk style wrestling, which is the high school and college style of wrestling. Greco wrestling the old fashion Greece and Roman wrestling. And lastly freestyle wrestling, which is the newest style.

In Greco wrestling, all the offence comes from the top of the body, so you can't attack the legs. The objective of Greco is to pick up your opponent and slam him onto the ground to score points. Also the way to score in Greco wrestling is to push your opponent outside of the center circle.

Freestyle wrestlingFreestyle wrestling is somewhat of a mixture of both Greco and folk style wrestling. Freestyle, you can slam your opponent as hard as you want and you still need a lot of techniques as well with ground game. Freestyle wrestling is the only style you can score points by rolling your opponent on his back.
